Samsung’s New SH100 Brings Your World Closer

Samsung Launches the NX11, the Latest NX System Camera and Lens Line Up

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, announced today the launch of the NX11 - the latest addition to the highly successful NX family of cameras. The NX11 is an upgraded model based on the NX10, compatible with the new i-Function lens, introduced for the NX100. The NX11 will come complete with an 18-55mm i-Function lens, as well as two new i-Function lenses, a 20mm pancake and a 20-50mm zoom silver colour lens. The launch reinforces the company’s commitment to leading innovation in the compact system camera market.
The i-Function lens puts the perfect picture at the fingertips of all photographers by providing an exceptionally easy way of controlling the camera. A typical camera user wraps their hand around the lens when holding the camera, the new i-Function system allows photographers to naturally use their left hand to change settings through a button built into the i-Function lens, without the need to take the camera off the target. Users can toggle between shutter speed, aperture, EV, WB, and ISO quickly and easily by simply using the i-Function button and ring on the lens, meaning easier and quicker configuration while shooting.

Samsung Mobile Printing Solution makes printing truly mobile

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a global leader in consumer electronics and information technology, today announced Samsung MobilePrint app, a mobile printing solution at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The application can be installed on Android and iOS smart phones and tablets enabling consumers to connect directly to Samsung wireless printers via Wi-Fi or a network linked printer. Users can then print photos, PDFs and web pages directly from their devices. The solution also enables lightning-fast scanning to your mobile.

Samsung out NX11 at CES

There's no word on price, but it's expected to be in the region of £599 inc VAT. From the specification sheet below, the NX11 adopts the same 14.6-megapixel resolution sensor as the NX10 (though the sensor / pipeline maybe updated slightly) and will be available in February. We're waiting for Samsung to supply images, but as it's based on the NX10, we don't expect there to be much difference visually. A 20mm pancake and a 20-50mm zoom have also been announced.

Digital Photographer magazine calls for entries in DPOTY 2010 competition

Digital Photographer magazine is calling for entries in its annual DPOTY (Digital Photographer of the Year) competition. From today, entrants can submit images in as many as six different categories, with the overall winner receiving a Samsung NX10 hybrid, three lenses and a flashgun kit. The hugely popular Digital Photographer of the Year Awards returns for 2010 – this time with backing from photography giant, Samsung

Imagine Publishing and Samsung are joining forces to launch the fourth annual Digital Photography of the Year awards, with better prizes and categories than ever before. Fresh from celebrating over one million copy sales earlier this year, Digital Photographer magazine anticipates record a number of submissions for the competition in 2010, with the overall winner receiving a Samsung NX10, three lenses and a flashgun kit. Six category winners will each receive a Samsung EX1 camera.

Rosie Tanner, Editor of Digital Photographer, is brimming with expectation for DPOTY ’10: “The DPOTY awards offer digital photographers a fantastic platform to showcase their work across a wide range of categories. It’s an amazing opportunity for fresh talent to emerge and we can’t wait to celebrate new and undiscovered digital photographers. Since its launch back in 2007, the DPOTY awards has seen year-on-year success and is now widely recognised by the photography industry as one of the top photographic competitions of its kind. The judging panel for the 2010 awards features some of the country’s top photographic professionals including big names such as Guardian Picture Editor, Eamonn McCabe and pro photographer, William Cheung FRPS.

The call for entries opens on the 15 July, which coincides with the on-sale date of Digital Photographer issue 98. In contrast to previous years, the format of the awards for 2010 will see a brand new competition category launched in each issue of the magazine. There will be six photographic categories in total – each designed to push the creativity of photographers. The categories are:

Strike a Pose – Portraits

Wild at Heart – Wildlife/nature

Location, Location – Travel

Capture the Action – Motion/action

Get Creative – Creative/image editing/HDR

Samsung officially unwrap NX

Ahead of CES, Samsung has announced the final specification of the DSLR-like NX. Following in the footsteps of the Micro FourThirds cameras from Olympus and Panasonic, the NX dispenses with the usual reflex mirror and pentaprism (in favour of an EVF), allowing for a much smaller and lighter body.

Unlike rivals though the Samsung NX is the first of its type to feature a APS-C size sensor - much larger than Pens' and little Lumix cameras, so we can expect perhaps to see improved high-ISO performance over those models.

The only real downside to this is that the NX lenses will have to have a larger image circle to cover the larger sensor, so they won't be as compact as the mFT optics. All the same the NX is is a welcome addition to the range cameras available.

Samsung NX series features interchangeable lenses

At the bottom of the press release in the last post, Samsung quite clearly state the NX series will feature interchangeable lenses, not unlike the M3/4 Panasonic Lumix G1 camera.

In any case, the photo of the NX has what looks like a lens release button, if there were any doubters.

With the shorter flange back, I can't really see why a lens converter can't be made to accommodate lenses using the Pentax K mount, and that includes all those superb Limited lenses.

Now where is the follow up to the G1, and Olympus' M3/4 offering?

Samsung surprise with world's first AMOLED screen on WB100 and high-end WB550

13:00 (GMT) 23rd February 2009 – Samsung Digital Imaging, leaders in innovation and digital technology, is breaking new ground by including world-first technology in the advanced WB550 and WB100 compact cameras.



The WB100 model, with a 5x optical zoom and 24mm ultra wide lens, breaks ground in the compact camera category by featuring the world's first 3.0” VGA AMOLED screen. The organic LED screen out performs conventional TFT LCD screens with better contrast and a brighter screen that really helps when shooting in both bright sunlight and dark conditions. The 960k pixel packed screen also shows fantastic detail when framing the shot and in playback.

The new WB550 also includes a world first 10x optical zoom and 24mm ultra wide angle Schneider lens (previously found only in the camera’s predecessor, the WB500*) and cements Samsung’s position as an innovator in the new and important High-zoom category - compact cameras equipped with the sort of advanced zoom lens technology traditionally seen only in SLR cameras. Dual Image Stabilisation
The WB550 and WB100 integrate Optical and Digital Image Stabilisation into a Dual Image Stabilisation function, providing outstanding quality photos without blur from handshake - even in low light conditions.

Full Manual Control
For the more advanced user who prefers to have more control over camera settings, the WB100 offers aperture priority, shutter priority, as well as full manual shooting modes. Samsung also includes its unique Advanced Picture Mode in the WB100. With Advanced Picture Mode, users can fine tune color tones in their saved images by adjusting the color temperature from 2,800-10,000K, in 100K increments, or by manually configuring the camera’s color space shift.

Face Detection
