Barclays search for best league photographer

In this the 20th season of the Premier League, Barclays is searching for the best photographer along with the best individual image since the inception of the league during the 1992/93 season. The awards are open to all current and former professional photographers who have covered the Premier League. Entries can be made in two categories, with the winners receiving a Barclays Award and photographic equipment. The closing date for entries is Friday 2 March 2012 with the winners announced in April 2012. BARCLAYS LAUNCHES PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS TO CELEBRATE 20 SEASONS OF THE PREMIER LEAGUE

- Search begins for all-time top League photographer -

Barclays, title sponsor of the Barclays Premier League, today launches a special Barclays Photography Awards to find the best photographer and individual 'shot' since the inception of the league in the 1992/93 season.

The Barclays Photographer of the 20 Seasons Awards are open to all current and former professional photographers who have covered the Premier League since it began, and recognises the important role that photography has played within the game. The Awards aim to capture the iconic moments of passion, excitement and drama that have defined the competition over the past 20 seasons.

 
There are two categories:

·       The Barclays Photographer Award of the 20 Seasons will go to the photographer who submits the best portfolio of five pictures that show high technical accomplishment as well as capturing the essence of the league at some point during, or over the course of the 20 seasons. The winner will receive a Barclays Award and £10,000 worth of photographic equipment.

·       The Barclays Shot of the 20 Seasons will be given to the photographer who submits the best single iconic image. The winner will also receive a Barclays Award together with £5,000 of photographic equipment.

Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2012 competition open

German camera maker Leica has announced the Leica Oskar Barnack competition is open. Entry submissions must be a standalone sequence of 10-12 images where the photographer "perceives and documents the interaction between man and the environment with acute vision and contemporary visual style – creative, groundbreaking and unintrusive".The winner of the prestigious award receives a Leica M9-P camera and a lens worth 10.000 Euros in addition to a cash prize of 5,000 Euros.

Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2012 competition now open
 
Entries now being accepted for annual Leica photography competition
 
16 January 2012: Leica Camera AG has announced that entries are now being accepted for the 2012 Oskar Barnack Award. Photographers interested in submitting entries can apply from now until 1 March 2012. Full details, entry criteria and terms and conditions can be found at www.leica-oskar-barnack-award.com
 
The Leica Oskar Barnack Award will be presented for the 33rd time this year. The winner will receive a Leica M9-P camera with lens worth approximately Eur 10,000 in addition to a cash prize of Eur 5,000. A further prize will be awarded – the ‘Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award’ – for (prospective) professional photographers aged 25 and under. The winner of this section will also be awarded a Leica M9-P complete with lens.
 
The members of this year’s international jury include: Bruce Gilden, Magnum photographer, Stephan Erfurt, Director of C/O Berlin, Valérie Fougeirol, Creative Director of the Magnum Gallery in Paris, Karin Rehn-Kaufmann, Artistic Director of the Leica Galerie in Salzburg and Brigitte Schaller, Art Director of Leica Fotografie International magazine.
 
The awards will be presented in the course of the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie photography festival to be held in Arles, France from 2 to 8 July 2012.

Call for entries in Open to Interpretation: Fading Light

Open to Interpretation are calling for entries in their international juried book competition. Submissions are open now with early submissions due January 19, 2012. The deadline for entries is March 15, 2012. Please see below for submission guidelines, fees, and award details.

"Fading Light" Juried Photo Competition

Open to Interpretation is now calling on photographers to submit images for consideration in a juried book competition. 
 
Project Details
Open to Interpretation is a collaborative book project bringing together photographers, poets and writers. Each book begins with a themed call for photos. The chosen photos become the literary inspiration for the writers' submissions. A book is created that matches each winning photo with two stories or poems that offer different interpretations of the image. The unique collaboration adds new dimensions to both the photos and the written word.

George Slade has provided fine photographic artists and their audiences with insightful interpretation and curatorial expertise in exhibitions, classes, writings, lectures, and face-to-face exchanges for over 25 years. Formerly the artistic director of Minnesota Center for Photography, the director of the McKnight Artist Fellowships for Photographers Program, and recently the curator at the Photographic Resource Center in Boston, George is a veteran presence at portfolio review events like Fotofest, Photolucida, Critical Mass, PhotoNOLA, and the Society for Photographic Education's regional and national conferences. In the last three years he juried regional and national exhibitions for the Coalition of Photographic Arts (Milwaukee), New Directions 2009 at the Wallspace Gallery (Seattle), the 2011 Clarence John Laughlin Award at the New Orleans Photographic Alliance, the New England Photography Biennial at the Danforth Museum of Art (Framingham, MA), and IRevelar at the Naomi Silva Gallery in Atlanta. George received a 2007 award from the Creative Capital/Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant Program; his writings and reviews appear extensively in print and online; some may be found at his web site, re:photographica. He lives in Minneapolis with his partner Stephanie and their children.

RPS call for entries in 155th International Print competition

The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) has announced a call for entries for the 155th International Print competition and exhibition. It's the world’s oldest photographic competition and has £6500 (approx. $10,000) in cash prizes, as well as Olympus PEN equipment and award medals to win. The prestigious competition is open to all photographers and includes a special award for under 25 year olds.The deadline for receipt of entries is 21 March 2012.

Bath, UK, 24 November 2011 – The world’s oldest photographic competition, organised by The Royal Photographic Society, has put out a call for entries for 2012. The 155th International Print competition is open to entrants until 21 March 2012 and has £6500 (approx $10,000) in cash prizes, Olympus Pen equipment and it will award medals to the winners. The competition is sponsored for the fifth year by international legal practice Allen & Overy which will also host the opening exhibition from 18 July 2012.
 
The competition is open to all photographers and includes a special award for under 25 year olds. Up to 125 prints will be selected by a panel that includes photographic artist Tom Hunter HonFRPS, the Guardian and Observer’s head of photography Roger Tooth, social documentary photographer Ian Beesley, and photographers Sandy Cleland FRPS and Vanessa Slawson FRPS. Allen & Overy is awarding a £1000 prize for the best photograph on the theme of ‘Change’.  
 
The Society’s Director-General Michael Pritchard commented:  “Acceptance of work in to The Society’s International Print competition is for many photographers the high point  of their photographic endeavours. Our selectors are looking forward to the challenge of choosing the best of photography. The Society is grateful to Allen and Overy for their continued sponsorship”.
 
First held in 1854 the Royal Photographic Society’s International Print competition and exhibition is the world’s most prestigious. Submissions reflect all aspects of photography from documentary and contemporary work through to natural history, landscape and portraiture. Past award winners have included Harry Borden, Peter Dazeley and Julia Fullerton-Batten. 
 
The exhibition will tour the UK and elsewhere for up to a year and photographers will have the opportunity to sell copies of their prints. All accepted prints will be shown in a full-colour catalogue which all entrants receive.
