The camcorder gives families the reassurance of Samsung imaging quality, whilst also using key Samsung innovations to deliver added value that exceeds expectations.
The HMX-H300 offers premium camcorder technology that can be relied on for any situation where there are memories to be captured. The HMX-H300 is designed to automatically deliver stable video in crystal-clear HD, allowing the user to enjoy the moment without worrying about correcting settings or focusing. Steve Mitchell, General Manager, Samsung UK Digital Imaging, commented: “We understand that for a family, buying a camcorder to capture those family moments like a first birthday or a graduation is an important purchase that is carefully thought out. This is why with the HMX-H300 series we have put the best of our technology and innovation into one simple and affordable camcorder, to ensure that this is a product a family can rely on for brilliant videos at any occasion. The advantages of Samsung innovation can be seen in the HMX-H300’s core technologies, but also the inclusion of advanced features like OIS Duo and Smart Auto make video recording an enjoyable experience for everyone.”

Smart Video Functions

The HMX-H300 is designed to be able to capture any occasion faithfully, so that when you play back your memories there are no distractions or difficulties, only the chance to relive a memorable time with the clarity and quality of seeing it for the first time. The HMX-H300 includes features that make it even easier to achieve amazing quality in an instant. The Face Detection function makes sure that the faces of up to six people in the shot are kept in focus at all times so that clarity isn’t sacrificed in busy scenes such as parties or concerts. The upgraded Smart Auto feature automatically selects the right shooting mode depending on factors such as brightness, subject and colour for the best footage possible. It also features the new and innovative Record Pause function, allowing users to briefly pause in recording, before resuming recording in the same file, saving time when editing.

Innovative Optical Technology

Another key feature is the 30x Optical Zoom available on the HMX-H300 lens, which records in greater definition than any of its competitors in its class and creates incredible close-ups from long distances. This helps create memorable videos no matter how far you are from the action, whether it’s filming the big game or a school stage production. Samsung’s own research shows how important it is for families to be able to capture as much as possible of their once-in-a-lifetime occasions; the HMX-H300 is therefore built with an efficient battery that delivers up to three hours of filming time, so users can shoot for longer without worrying about missing the vital moment.
The HMX-H300 is also built with a 5 Megapixel 1/4” (1/6.3”, 1.75M Effective) BSI (Back Side Illuminated) CMOS sensor, which is twice as sensitive as a regular CMOS sensor. This means that noise and image distortion are reduced and video quality in low-light conditions, such as dimly-lit restaurants or nighttime scenes, is dramatically improved. Similarly, the HMX-H300 also includes an advanced OIS Duo (Upgraded Optical Image Stabilisation) system to ensure steady and stable footage by compensating for minor hand and body movements, even when walking around.
The HMX-H300 also has a 3” Touch LCD screen, which is 20% larger than standard displays to make sharing moments easier, in natural colour and clear detail. The intuitive user interface makes the camcorder fun and easy to use. The HMX-H300’s design has been streamlined and been made even more compact so that users can hold the camcorder easily, enabling them to divert their attention to their subject and the occasion. The HMX-H300 series also offers a still picture function so there is no need to carry around a second camera to get the perfect image.

The last couple of decades have been turbulent for medium format camera manufacturers, but now after several well-known names have withdrawn, the market looks healthy. Two new unexpected entrants, Leica and Pentax have added to the dynamic at opposing ends of the pricing scale, forcing the two established system players to compete fiercely in their traditional rarefied role as well as the entry-level.

Partnering with both Leaf and Mamiya, Phase One has developed a trio of entry-level Mamiya DM models starting at under $14k/ £9k while continuing to offer a wide range of Phase One and Leaf backs, up to 80-megapixels. Through various offers and incentives these backs, are most likely to be partnered with the 645DF body but they are in fact compatible with a wide range of …

Fujifilm IS Pro UV-IR DSLR review

Fuji’s IS Pro is the up-date to maker’s earlier S3 UV-IR camera, and like that particular camera, the IS Pro adopts a modified image sensor that’s not shielded from UV or IR light. Consequently, with various filtration methods, the IS Pro is designed for Ultraviolet (UVA), visible and near Infrared photography.

Although there is a healthy demand for DSLRs with IR capability especially, and there are number of independent vendors (mainly in the US, but the UK also) that offer IR dedicated and full-spectrum conversion of current Nikon and Canon bodies, it’s anticipated the IS Pro will appeal largely to the scientific and forensic communities. With the departure of the S3 UV-IR, Fuji’s IS Pro continues to be the only dedicated full-spectrum interchangeable lens based DSLR that has professional-level support from a camera maker. As well as official product support and 12-month warranty, for government agencies and the like, the OEM status of the IS Pro will be particularly reassuring an…
